So Tara at Sticky Fingers gave us a real challenge this week for the Gallery. The subject is Ugly. I don't generally go out of my way to photograph ugly things. Unusual maybe, but not generally ugly. Then I got to thinking about what I could post.... Ugly.. BUGS. aha.. the lightbulb went off. So here we have an ugly bug for my choice for the Ugly Gallery this week.
I took this with my trusty (but very much falling to pieces, held together with glue because I can't afford another) macro lens which allows me to get in really close (providing the fly doesn't clear off if I scare it).
Wow! amazing photography
ReplyDeleteWow! Fabbbbbb Picture! I need to take some classes and get a good digital SLR camera.
ReplyDeletewow, that's incredible! Love that the fly is ugly but the beautiful blurryness of the flower is so pretty
ReplyDeleteThank you :) The bugs are out today... I'll have to get myself on a bug hunt with my camera. Hubby laughs at me when I go crawling around the grass, camera down butt up LOL
ReplyDeleteGo for it. Although I haven't taken any lessons at all. I've taught myself by using tips from photography sites online. Get yourself a DSLR though.. you won't regret it
ReplyDeleteThank you. It's amazing that something that's so ugly can still look beautiful isn't it.
ReplyDeleteAny recommendations?
ReplyDeleteRecommendations for cameras? I use a Canon 30D that I bought last year after my previous camera (a 20D) ended up as roadkill. (my hubby ran over my kit bag and killed my camera and 2 lenses while we were on holiday!) The 30D cost me about £330 from ebay, and it does everything I need, including being fast enough for the motorsport photography I love doing. There is a 40D and a 50D aswell, so that's bringing the prices of the 30D right down, and they've just bought out a 7D, which if money is no object, I'd say go for. I'll never own one LOL but I'm not a camera snob, so buy what fits your budget. You can also get the canon 450D for a reasonable price now. Check ebay out and you could get a bargain, but you will need lenses aswell. If you want to know anything else by all means email me at annie170768 at gmail dot com :)
ReplyDeleteFlies are usually ugly, but how beautiful to see this one in such detail. Its eyes are stunning. That is a wonderful photograph - I love it. x
ReplyDeleteWow! That is one stunning piccie.
ReplyDeleteI can't decide whether to save up for a macro lens or a D90 - I reckon both...
Oh my goodness...I absolutely love it! it's pictures like this that make me want to know more about photography! Amazing. Not ugly at all!
ReplyDeleteBoth!! spoil yourself :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. There are more ugly bugs and some pretty ones on my website :) http://www.ammphotography.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=5406260
ReplyDeleteEwww! I hate flies quite a lot! And wow again.
ReplyDeleteI love my DSLR (Canon 400D) it's been great for learning. Of course now I want a complete upgrade on, um, everything. 5D Mark II or 7D for me, plz. Mind you what I'm really getting interested in is film, but that's a whole other can of something. But like you say, decent lenses and an understanding of light, physics and composition are just as important as your camera, if not more so. Isn't it great how much information there is online now? I love it.
Oh. My. God!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is effing fabulous!!!
I'm going to show this to a mate on FB who is daft about photography - hope that's ok.
I think that if you haven't got 'the eye' then it doesn't matter how much you spend on your camera, it's never gonna work. I hate to say this, but there's really nothing I need kit wise at the moment, although my macro lens is a bit poorly LOL
ReplyDeleteLOL, thank you. Yes of course it's ok. :) at the top of my blog, there's a link to my personal photography site.. just photographs I've taken over the past couple of years. and I've started a fan page (LMAO - me... fans... haha) on facebook. Basically so my family and friends can see my stuff because none of them read my blog. Facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/pages/Ann-Marie-Metcalfe-Photography/110064789021936?ref=nf
ReplyDeleteAre you sure you're really an "amateur" (other than in the original sense of course)? That's an amazing picture. And definitely ugly!
ReplyDeletehave linked to your FB page under the shared link :)
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, yes I'm amateur in that I take photographs for pleasure and don't get paid for them. I don't work for anyone photographically.. just lil' ol' me and thank you :)
ReplyDeleteYuk, yuk, yuk. AMAZING photograph, though!
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteAnnie, that's incredible! I heart your macro lens. I can't believe how clear it is, look at those hairs on it's back. wow
